ABVP Dominates Utkal University While BCJD Sweeps Rama Devi in Odisha Student Union Elections
Bhubaneswar: The results of Odisha’s student union elections have highlighted a closely fought contest between the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and the Biju Chhatra Janata Dal (BCJD), with both organisations registering significant victories across higher educational institutions in the state.
According to reports, elections were conducted in 285 colleges and universities after a long gap, drawing widespread participation from students.
ABVP emerged as the dominant force at Utkal University, securing key student leadership posts, including the president and general secretary positions.
The organisation also posted impressive performances in several prominent institutions such as BJB Autonomous College, Rajdhani College, and Gangadhar Meher University.
Meanwhile, BCJD recorded a comprehensive victory at Rama Devi Women’s University, winning all major executive positions, including president, vice president, general secretary, and joint general secretary.
The clean sweep reinforced the organization’s strong foothold among students of the premier women’s university.
Statewide, unofficial tallies indicated that ABVP secured 142 presidential posts, while BCJD won 121. NSUI-backed candidates managed to capture five presidential seats.
The elections also witnessed notable performances by independent candidates in institutions such as Shailabala Women’s College, Khallikote College, and Nimapara College.
Results from Ravenshaw University and Fakir Mohan University reflected a mixed trend, with ABVP and BCJD sharing victories across various posts.
The election process covered 247 degree colleges and six state universities, producing more than 2,600 student representatives through contested and uncontested polls.
Newly elected office-bearers are scheduled to take the oath and formally assume office in the coming days.
The outcome underscores the intense competition between Odisha’s major student organisations and sets the stage for active campus leadership across the state’s educational institutions.
