Odisha Govt Rolls Back PUCC-Fuel Rule, Relief for Motorists
In a significant relief for motorists across Odisha, the state government has officially withdrawn its directive that linked fuel supply to Pollution Under Control Certificates (PUCC).
The earlier order had mandated petrol pumps to deny fuel to vehicles without valid PUCCs, sparking widespread confusion and inconvenience.
The decision came after the Odisha High Court clarified that enforcement of PUCC compliance lies with the Transport and Police departments, not fuel stations.
In its affidavit, the government acknowledged the need to amend the Vahan portal to reflect the updated policy.
Petrol pump owners had raised concerns about the practicality of enforcing the directive, while vehicle owners complained of unnecessary hardship.
With the withdrawal, motorists can now access fuel without restrictions, though officials have reminded the public of the importance of maintaining valid PUCCs to safeguard the environment and adhere to pollution norms.
The move has been welcomed by citizens and industry stakeholders alike, marking a balance between environmental responsibility and public convenience.
