Odisha Govt Deploys Ministers to South Odisha Amid Flood, Landslide Fears
Bhubaneswar: With heavy rainfall triggered by a deep depression raising fears of floods and landslides in South Odisha, the state government has deployed two senior ministers to oversee preparedness in vulnerable districts.
Panchayati Raj & Rural Development Minister Rabi Narayan Naik has been assigned to Koraput, while Fisheries & Animal Resources Development Minister Gokulananda Mallik has been sent to Gajapati.
Both leaders will coordinate with district administrations to monitor ground conditions and ensure swift response.
Revenue & Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari confirmed that men and machinery have been stationed at strategic points, with MLAs instructed to remain in their constituencies.
The government is working with the goal of “zero casualties”, as directed by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
Meanwhile, the Water Resources Department has intensified night patrolling and vigilance at embankments and critical water infrastructure.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings of squally weather along the Odisha coast, with wind speeds reaching up to 70 kmph.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea until Friday morning.
