Kandhamal Administration Seals Gajalabadi Ghat Amid Heavy Rainfall

The Kandhamal district administration has sealed the Gajalabadi Ghat section of National Highway 59 (Gopalpur–Raipur) following relentless downpours.

The 17‑km stretch between Daringbadi and Brahmapur has been declared unsafe due to mudslides, falling boulders, and soil erosion.

The decision came after a heavy transport truck lost balance on a sharp bend, underscoring the risk to commuters.

Kandhamal Collector Vedbhushan ordered the immediate closure, with officials including the Daringbadi BDO, Tehsildar, ASI, and NH Junior Engineer inspecting the site.

Barricades have been placed at Baimala on the Kandhamal–Ganjam border, and police personnel are stationed to enforce the ban.

Authorities have confirmed that traffic will remain suspended until conditions normalise and the route is declared safe for travel.
