Odisha Assembly Adjourned Amid Opposition Protests

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Assembly was adjourned until 4 PM on Friday after Question Hour lasted barely four minutes, disrupted by loud protests from opposition members.

Legislators from the BJD and Congress stormed into the Well of the House, raising slogans against the recently passed MMDR Amendment Act, 2026 and demanding accountability for errors in school textbooks.

The opposition pressed for the resignation of the School and Mass Education Minister, citing lapses flagged by a government panel in the textbook review process.

This marks the fourth consecutive day of disruptions in the Monsoon Session, which is scheduled to run until October 3 with nine working days.

Despite the uproar, the government introduced the Odisha Jan Vishwas Bill, 2026, which will be taken up for further proceedings.

The repeated adjournments underscore the growing tension between the treasury and opposition benches over education quality and mining legislation.
