Odisha Governor Calls on Universities to Safeguard Land and Embrace Sustainability

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati has urged universities across the state to take proactive measures in protecting their land from encroachment and to adopt sustainable practices that align with national priorities.

Speaking at a recent conference, the Governor emphasised the importance of renewable energy adoption, encouraging institutions to install rooftop solar panels through CSR funding and the RESCO model to minimise upfront costs.

He also advocated for electric vehicle usage, plantation drives, and carbon credit mechanisms to generate revenue while expanding green cover.

Highlighting the role of universities in shaping future citizens, Dr Kambhampati stressed that higher education must go beyond degrees to produce innovators, leaders, and nation‑builders.

He called for collective “Mann Ki Baat” listening sessions, cultural activities, and collaborations with Skill Development Institutes to ensure outcome‑based training.

The Governor further urged universities to raise awareness among students about government welfare, entrepreneurship, and employment schemes.

Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj assured that the state government will act on these suggestions, expanding skill development initiatives and supporting sustainable practices in higher education institutions.
