Odisha Government to Free College Lands from Encroachers: Minister Suraj
On the second day of the Odisha Assembly’s winter session, Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj announced that the state government will take decisive steps to free college lands from encroachment.
Suraj informed the House that district collectors have already been instructed to initiate necessary action to vacate illegal occupations.
He highlighted the case of Bhadrak Women’s College, where anti‑social elements had previously created serious disturbances. Following the BJP government’s intervention, order was restored, but several colleges across Odisha remain under encroachment.
The minister emphasised that the move is aimed at safeguarding public property, strengthening higher education infrastructure, and ensuring a safe environment for students.
By removing illegal occupation, the government seeks to protect institutions and provide a conducive atmosphere for learning.
Officials reiterated that district administrations have been directed to act swiftly, ensuring that encroached lands are returned to the respective colleges.
The initiative reflects the government’s broader commitment to improving educational facilities across the state.
