Odisha Gears Up for National Road Safety Month 2026: Awareness on Wheels
Odisha has begun preparations for the upcoming National Road Safety Month 2026, scheduled from January 1 to January 31, 2026, as notified by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
A preliminary meeting chaired by Smt. Usha Padhee, Principal Secretary of the Commerce & Transport Department, was held at Kharavel Bhawan.
The session included the Transport Commissioner and senior officials, focusing on translating national road safety guidelines into state and district-level actions.
The campaign will emphasise awareness drives, stricter enforcement, improved road engineering, and enhanced emergency response systems.
Seven high‑accident districts have been identified for targeted interventions, with district‑specific strategies to reduce fatalities.
Officials highlighted the importance of data-driven, outcome-oriented approaches and reviewed past initiatives to ensure sustainability. Accident-prone locations will be rectified in coordination with construction agencies to eliminate engineering deficiencies.
The meeting underscored the need for collaboration among government departments, police, and district administrations to achieve meaningful reductions in road accidents.
Another high-level meeting will soon finalise detailed action plans and strategies.
Road safety remains central to Odisha’s vision of becoming a developed state where every life matters, with ongoing efforts to promote behaviour change campaigns, rapid post-crash care, and sustainable enforcement mechanisms.
