Odisha Flood Alert: Government Deploys Senior IAS Officers as Rivers Cross Danger Marks
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has declared the next 12 hours critical as heavy rainfall continues to swell rivers across north Odisha, raising fears of flooding.
To strengthen on‑ground response, three senior IAS officers have been deployed to coordinate relief and restoration efforts:
- Sudhansu Mohan Samal, MD of OMC, in Bhadrak
- K. Sudarshan Chakravarthy, MD of OSCS, in Balasore
- P. Anvesha Reddy, Excise Commissioner, in Jajpur
District administrations have already evacuated vulnerable residents to safer locations.
Engineers are patrolling embankments, with emergency sandbagging teams on standby.
The Jalaka, Budhabalanga, and Salandi rivers are flowing above danger levels, while monitoring continues in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Sambalpur.
Special attention is being given to elderly citizens, pregnant women, children, and livestock during evacuation.
ODRAF teams have been stationed in affected districts, and police superintendents have been instructed to assist evacuations.
Women police personnel are deployed at relief centres to ensure safety.
With rainfall persisting and rivers swollen, the state government has intensified monitoring and emergency response to minimise flood impact.
