Odisha CM Majhi Champions Green Revolution at Van Mahotsav

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi spearheaded the state‑level celebration of the 77th Van Mahotsav at Kapileswar, highlighting the synergy between development and environmental protection.

Odisha has added 558 sq km of forest cover in the last two years, securing the third position nationally.

Under the Ama Jungle Yojana, 19,975 hectares of degraded forest have been restored, benefiting 43.18 lakh people through livelihood programs worth Rs 1,488 crore.

The government also launched the Sabuj Mahanadi Mission, aiming to create green belts along seven major rivers, including the Mahanadi, Tel, Ib, and Brahmani.

This year, 5.65 lakh saplings will be planted across 774 hectares, with a target of 9 lakh saplings next year. Urban areas will see 7 lakh trees to combat pollution.

Special initiatives under CAMPA, OFSDP‑II, MISHTI, and ECRICC include mangrove restoration and palm plantations to reduce lightning risks.

Last year, Odisha set a record by planting 1.49 crore saplings in a single day under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign.

The CM honoured grassroots forest protection committees from Angul and Mayurbhanj with awards of Rs 2 lakh each for their conservation efforts.
