Odisha Charts Roadmap for Global Tourism Destinations

Bhubaneswar: Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida chaired a state‑level workshop to design a roadmap for developing world‑class tourist destinations in Odisha under the Government of India’s “One State – One Global Destination” initiative.

The workshop emphasised tourism as a driver of economic growth, employment, and entrepreneurship, while highlighting the need for convergence across departments and stakeholders.

Two flagship destinations were identified:

  • Puri–Konark Region: A heritage, spiritual, and coastal hub showcasing Jagannath culture, Konark Sun Temple, Chilika Lake, and Raghurajpur heritage village.
  • Hirakud: Positioned as an eco‑tourism and adventure destination centred on Hirakud Reservoir and Debrigarh Wildlife Sanctuary.

Key discussions included destination‑specific development plans, infrastructure upgrades, visitor management, sustainability, last‑mile connectivity, and private sector participation.

The roadmap also proposed establishing Destination Management Organisations (DMOs) to ensure global competitiveness.

Stakeholders from government departments, national bodies like ASI and NIWS, and industry associations such as ATOAI, IATO, OATO, and HRAO participated in shaping the vision.

This initiative aims to elevate Odisha’s tourism profile globally, blending heritage, spirituality, and eco‑adventure to attract international visitors.
