Odisha Braces for Heat Surge as IMD Issues Thunderstorm Alert
Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a sharp rise in daytime temperatures across Odisha, with western districts expected to touch 41°C by May 15–16.
Current readings already show Titlagarh at 40°C, Sambalpur at 39.9°C, Jharsuguda at 39.2°C, and Bhawanipatna at 39°C.
The IMD has issued a yellow warning for 21 districts, cautioning residents about thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds ranging from 30–50 km/h.
Northern Odisha is likely to experience rain and thunder activity until May 16.
Meanwhile, a low‑pressure system over the Bay of Bengal is unlikely to intensify into a depression but may evolve into a well‑marked system within 48 hours.
Meteorologists say conditions are favourable for the southwest monsoon to arrive on time, expected in the second week of May.
Authorities have urged citizens to stay hydrated, avoid outdoor exposure during peak hours, and remain alert to weather updates.
