BMC to Serve Up Bhubaneswar’s First ‘Gupchup Bazaar’

Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) is set to launch a dedicated “Gupchup Bazaar” to streamline street food vending and provide a hygienic, organised space for vendors and visitors.

The bazaar will be established along the roadside stretch in front of the Regional Institute of Education (RIE), accommodating around 30–40 gupchup vendors initially.

To enhance the experience, the site has been beautified with paver blocks and decorative lighting, while vendors will be provided with customised trolleys—over 80 have already been procured.

Street vendors currently operating in Sahid Nagar, Nicco Park, and nearby areas are expected to be relocated to this new vending zone.

Officials are yet to finalise the charges or user fees for vendors.

The initiative aims to improve hygiene, reduce roadside congestion, and create a popular destination for food lovers eager to explore diverse flavours of Odisha’s favourite snack—gupchup.
