Nayagarh Firecracker Blast: One Dead, Five Critical Ahead of Festival
A tragic firecracker explosion in Nuagaon, Nayagarh district, has claimed one life and left five others critically injured.
The incident occurred at the home of Bapi Nahak in Meenagadia village while firecrackers were being prepared for the upcoming Lankapodi festival.
Nahak succumbed to severe burn injuries at AIIMS Bhubaneswar, while six others—including two women and a minor boy—sustained critical injuries.
Victims were initially treated at Nayagarh District Headquarters Hospital before being referred to AIIMS Bhubaneswar and SCB Medical College in Cuttack.
Police have launched an investigation into whether the firecrackers were being manufactured illegally and if safety norms were violated.
The blast has raised fresh concerns about hazardous homemade firecracker production in Odisha, especially during the festival season.
