Mohammed Moquim to Launch New Political Party in Odisha on National Youth Day

In a major political development, senior Odisha leader Mohammed Moquim, recently expelled from the Congress Party, has announced plans to launch a new political party on January 12, National Youth Day.

The initiative is aimed at reshaping Odisha’s political landscape with a strong emphasis on youth leadership and Odisha-specific issues.

Moquim revealed that the groundwork for the party will begin on January 12, with a formal launch scheduled for the last week of March 2026.

While the party’s name is yet to be finalised, consultations are underway—including with astrologers—to select an auspicious title.

The new outfit is expected to retain a symbolic connection to the Congress legacy while carving out its own identity.

The announcement has generated significant buzz across Odisha’s opposition circles. Leaders from both the BJD and Congress, along with young professionals such as doctors, have expressed interest in joining the movement.

Moquim emphasised that the party’s vision is to provide a credible alternative to the BJD, BJP, and Congress, which have long dominated the state’s politics.

When asked about his daughter Sofia Firdous’s political future, Moquim clarified that she would make her own independent decisions, stressing that her path would not be influenced by him.

With Odisha’s political environment currently marked by fluidity and growing opposition momentum, Moquim’s new party is expected to play a significant role in upcoming state politics, particularly by appealing to the youth and addressing local concerns.
