Mahanga Shock: Class III Girl Suffers Vision Loss in School Incident
A shocking incident has surfaced from Siripur village under Mahanga police station limits, where a Class III disabled student allegedly lost vision in her left eye after being beaten by her school’s in‑charge headmistress.
The victim, Debasmita Samal of Siripur Primary School, was reportedly punished for going to the toilet.
Her father alleged that the assault led to permanent damage to her left eye. Doctors at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar confirmed that the eye has been completely damaged.
Following the incident, the father lodged a written complaint at Mahanga police station.
The accused headmistress, Mamata Dehuri, denied the allegations, claiming she did not beat the student and suggesting the complaint was filed for other reasons.
Police have initiated an investigation.
Preliminary inquiry indicates the injury may have been caused by an object hitting the eye.
Authorities assured that strict action will be taken after the probe.
This case has sparked outrage, raising serious concerns about corporal punishment and child safety in schools.
