Low Pressure Area Intensifies Over Bay of Bengal; Odisha on Alert
Bhubaneswar: A well‑marked low‑pressure system has formed over the Bay of Bengal, with cyclonic circulation extending up to 9.4 km above mean sea level.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast further intensification into a depression within the next 48 hours.
Heavy rainfall warnings have been issued across Odisha:
- Red Alert: Kalahandi, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri — isolated extremely heavy rainfall likely.
- Orange Warning: Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kandhamal, Nabarangapur, Gajapati, Ganjam — heavy to very heavy rainfall possible.
- Yellow Warning: 17 districts, including Balasore, Cuttack, Puri, Khurda, Sundargarh, Mayurbhanj — heavy rainfall at isolated places.
Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious as enhanced rainfall activity is expected across the state in the coming days.
