Keonjhar Child Death Sparks Allegations of Expired Medicine Supply
Keonjhar district has been rocked by tragedy after an 11‑year‑old girl from Talabarada village died following alleged consumption of expired medicine.
The child’s mother, Sridevi Naik, an ASHA worker, claimed that medicine supplied by the local ANM centre directly caused her daughter’s death.
According to reports, the girl developed a fever last Thursday.
Sridevi collected medicine from ANM Gouri Mohanty and administered two doses.
The child’s condition worsened, prompting hospitalisation in Keonjhar. Despite treatment, she succumbed on Monday morning.
ANM Gouri Mohanty has denied the allegations, stating that expired stock had already been replaced with valid medicine.
She argued that the child’s condition deteriorated because two doses were given together, not due to expired drugs.
The incident has triggered outrage in the community, raising serious concerns about medical negligence and accountability in rural healthcare delivery.
Authorities are expected to investigate whether expired medicine was indeed supplied or if improper dosage led to the tragedy.
