Kalahandi Police Bust Fake Cop Extortion Racket, Four Arrested

Kalahandi, Odisha: In a major breakthrough, police in Kalahandi have arrested four men for impersonating police officers and extorting money from locals in Palam Chhak under the Kesinga Model Police Station.

The accused — Ashish Majhi, Naresh Harijan, Gopal Harijan, and Ajit Sahu, all residents of M. Rampur — were nabbed after operating for months under the guise of law enforcement.

They used a car fitted with red and blue LED lights and a siren to resemble a police vehicle, targeting residents during late-night hours.

During the raid, police seized the vehicle along with iron rods and grenades, linking the group to wider criminal activities, including illegal ganja transportation.

Authorities described the arrests as a significant step in curbing crime in the region. The accused have been produced in court, and officials confirmed that more suspects are likely to be apprehended.

Police emphasised that impersonating law enforcement not only facilitates crime but also erodes public trust in genuine policing efforts.
