IPS Officer Dr. Saravana Vivek M Assumes Charge as Bhubaneswar DCP
Bhubaneswar witnessed a key change in its police leadership as Dr Saravana Vivek M, a 2015‑batch IPS officer, officially took charge as the new Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP).
Dr Vivek, who previously served as Superintendent of Police (SP) in Brahmapur, is known for his proactive policing style.
His priorities in the capital city include strengthening law and order, crime prevention, women’s safety, and traffic management.
He succeeds Jagmohan Meena, a 2013‑batch officer, who resigned in July citing personal reasons. The Union Government accepted his voluntary retirement on September 11.
A medical graduate (MBBS) from Puducherry, Dr Vivek transitioned from medicine to law enforcement and has served in Rayagada, Kalahandi, and Brahmapur.
He also worked as a Police Observer during the 2026 West Bengal Assembly Elections.
The reshuffle also saw three other IPS officers reassigned:
- Abhinav Sonkar → SP of Brahmapur
- Mane Ajinkya Baburao → SP of Dhenkanal
- AB Shilpa → SDPO of Bargarh
Security experts highlight that strong leadership in the Bhubaneswar Police Commissionerate is crucial ahead of the festive season.
