IMD Warns 11 Districts Amid Severe Heatwave in Odisha
Bhubaneswar, April 27: Odisha is reeling under an intense heatwave, with seven cities recording temperatures above 43°C. Jharsuguda topped the chart at 44.8°C, followed by Sonepur (43.7°C), Titilagarh (43.6°C), Bhawanipatna (43.4°C), Balangir (43.1°C), and Boudh (43.0°C).
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave alert for 11 districts, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.
Residents have been advised to avoid peak sun exposure and stay hydrated.
While western Odisha continues to face severe heatwave conditions, coastal districts are struggling with oppressive humidity.
The IMD forecasts that the extreme heat will persist until April 28, with possible thunderstorms and rain in coastal and southern Odisha by April 29, offering temporary relief.
The heatwave has already impacted daily life, with schools adjusting schedules and residents limiting outdoor activities.
Health experts warn of heatstroke and dehydration risks, urging precautionary measures.
