IMD Issues Heatwave Alert for 10 Odisha Districts as Temperatures Soar
Bhubaneswar, April 16: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave warning for 10 districts of Odisha, forecasting a rise in daytime temperatures by 2–3°C over the next two days.
Districts under alert include Bolangir, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Boudh, Kandhamal, Sonepur, and Sambalpur.
On Wednesday, six towns recorded temperatures above 40°C, with Titilagarh emerging as the hottest at 42°C.
Coastal Odisha is expected to face high humidity and oppressive weather conditions throughout the week.
IMD Director Manorama Mohanty advised residents to take precautions such as avoiding prolonged sun exposure, staying hydrated, and wearing light clothing. Special care has been urged for children, the elderly, and outdoor workers.
The advisory highlights the growing intensity of summer in Odisha, urging citizens to remain vigilant against heat-related health risks.
