H&UD Minister Reviews Progress of WATCO Projects in Odisha
Bhubaneswar, Oct 1: Housing & Urban Development Minister Dr Krushna Chandra Mahapatra chaired a high‑level review meeting in Bhubaneswar to assess the progress of Water Corporation of Odisha (WATCO) projects.
WATCO MD Debabrata Mohanty presented updates on operational jurisdiction, ongoing water supply and sewerage projects, and the functioning of Water Treatment Plants (WTPs) and Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs).
The Minister emphasised timely completion, financial discipline, and quality assurance in all projects.
He directed officials to closely monitor expenditures, resolve bottlenecks swiftly, and ensure improved service delivery to citizens.
Discussions also covered jurisdictional changes, including the takeover of newly constituted Notified Area Councils (NACs) and the transfer of sewerage works to the Odisha Water Supply and Sewerage Board (OWSSB).
Additionally, the department will launch an IEC campaign under the SUJAL scheme from October 2–16 to promote responsible water use and citizen participation.
Senior officials from H&UD, WATCO, OWSSB, and other agencies attended the meeting, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening Odisha’s urban water infrastructure.
