Former Odisha Minister Damburudhar Majhi Passes Away at 86
Bhubaneswar: Veteran politician and four-time Odisha minister Damburudhar Majhi passed away on August 30, 2026, while undergoing treatment at Nabarangpur District Headquarters Hospital.
He was 86 and had been suffering from age-related ailments.
Majhi’s political career spanned over four decades.
He served as a minister in the Odisha cabinet between 1967 and 1990, handling key portfolios including Transport, Finance, and Culture.
He was elected multiple times from the erstwhile Kodigan Assembly constituency (now Dabugam).
Throughout his journey, Majhi was associated with several parties — Swatantra Party, Indian National Congress, Biju Janata Dal (BJD), and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
In 2009, he contested the Nabarangpur Lok Sabha seat on a BJD ticket but was defeated.
Later, he joined the BJP in October 2018.
His demise marks the end of a long and diverse political career that shaped Odisha’s governance across multiple decades.
