Fake Currency Worth ₹8.47 Lakh Seized in Sonepur, Two Arrested
Bhubaneswar, April 15: In a major breakthrough against financial crime, Sonepur police arrested two individuals and seized counterfeit currency worth ₹8.47 lakh during a late-night patrol near Block Chhak.
Police recovered 1,695 fake ₹500 notes hidden inside a carry bag in a black Scorpio vehicle (OD 34 Z 1919).
The accused, identified as Abhilash Purushottam Satapathy and Prashant Das, confessed to sourcing the counterfeit notes from Bargarh district and distributing them across Sonepur and nearby areas.
Authorities have seized the vehicle and produced the accused in court.
Investigations are underway to trace the larger network behind the racket, with police terming the operation a significant success in curbing illegal currency circulation.
