Odisha Braces for Heatwave: IMD Issues Alert for 13 Coastal Districts

Bhubaneswar, April 15: The Regional Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar has issued a heatwave warning for 13 coastal districts of Odisha, forecasting hot and humid conditions from April 18 to April 20.

Districts under alert include Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Angul, Khordha, Puri, Nayagarh, and Ganjam.

Authorities have advised residents to avoid direct sun exposure, stay hydrated, and limit outdoor activity during peak hours.

The IMD also cautioned about isolated thunderstorms with lightning, posing risks for farmers and outdoor workers.

Vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly are particularly at risk of heat stress.

District administrations have been directed to set up cooling shelters and ensure public water availability.

This alert highlights Odisha’s growing challenge of extreme weather events and the need for community-level preparedness.
