Eight‑Year‑Old Girl Drowns in Nabarangpur Pond, Village in Shock

Nabarangpur: Tragedy struck Budarapara village under Raighar police limits when an eight‑year‑old girl, Santoshini Majhi, drowned in a pond on Thursday afternoon.

According to reports, Santoshini, a Class III student, had gone to bathe with her friends.

While playing near the water, she slipped into the deeper section of the pond and was unable to swim back.

Her friends immediately raised an alarm, prompting villagers to rush to the spot.

The child was rescued and taken to Raighar Medical Centre, but doctors declared her dead upon arrival.

At the time of the incident, her father was at a nearby market, and her mother was engaged in household chores.

The sudden loss has left Budarapara village in shock. Police conducted a post‑mortem before handing over the body to the grieving family.
