CUO Students Shine at Innovision 2026 with Solar Seed Innovation

Bhubaneswar, April 28: Students from the Central University of Odisha (CUO) have clinched the first prize at Innovision 2026, hosted by Synergy Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar, in collaboration with SKD Patent Services, Kolkata.

The winning innovation, a solar-powered seed pelleting machine, was developed by Swapnarani Biswal (3rd year B.Sc. Agriculture) and Abhisikta Sahu (2nd year).

The machine addresses a critical farming challenge—small seeds being displaced during irrigation—by coating them to increase size and weight, ensuring stability and improved germination.

Beyond stabilisation, the machine enriches seeds with fertilisers and micronutrients, boosting early growth and productivity.

Powered by solar energy, it is cost-effective, eco-friendly, and tailored to rural farming conditions, particularly in Koraput’s soil and agricultural practices.

The project was developed with guidance from scientists at Navsari Agricultural University and CUO’s Dr Manjushree Singh, who emphasised its potential to enhance farmers’ livelihoods.

CUO Vice-Chancellor Prof. N. C. Panda praised the achievement, calling it a milestone in sustainable agricultural innovation.
