Congress Extends Support to Odisha Bandh on January 28 Over Farmers’ and Public Issues
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) has announced its support for the statewide bandh scheduled on January 28, called to highlight farmers’ grievances and pressing public concerns.
The bandh, spearheaded by farmer organisations and civil society groups, seeks to draw attention to issues including crop losses, inadequate procurement facilities, rising input costs, and broader challenges faced by ordinary citizens.
Congress leaders stated that the party stands in solidarity with the farmers and the public, urging the state government to take immediate steps to address their demands.
They emphasised that the bandh is a democratic expression of discontent and a call for accountability.
Shops, offices, and transport services are expected to be affected as the bandh gains momentum.
Political observers note that Congress’s support could amplify the protest’s impact, adding pressure on the ruling establishment.
Security arrangements are being tightened across Odisha to ensure law and order during the bandh. Authorities have appealed to citizens to maintain peace while acknowledging the right to protest.
