CM Majhi Announces ₹40 Crore Sports Infrastructure at Sambalpur Cup Kabaddi Tournament
Sambalpur, Odisha: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi attended the Sambalpur Cup All India Kabaddi Tournament as chief guest, encouraging players and highlighting Kabaddi’s deep roots in India’s rural culture.
He praised Sambalpur’s contribution to producing international athletes and urged young sportspersons to embrace discipline and sportsmanship.
Majhi announced a series of sports infrastructure projects for Sambalpur district, including redevelopment of V.S.S. Stadium with Rs 25 crore, a FIFA-standard football stadium at Mandalika Khela Padia with Rs 15 crore, a 100-bed sports hostel, and block-level stadiums across all nine blocks.
Plans also include upgrading Burla and Hirakud Indoor Stadiums and transforming the Government Sports College at Kulundi into a premier sports centre.
The CM recalled Kabaddi’s journey from sandy riverbeds of the Mahanadi to modern stadiums, citing inspirational figures like Bhim Barad and Priyanka Pradhan.
He thanked Sambalpur MLA Jay Narayan Mishra and organisers for the successful conduct of the tournament.
The event was attended by Panchayati Raj Minister Ravi Narayan Naik, former Rengali MLA Nauri Naik, and Sambalpur District Collector Siddheshwar Baliram Bandar.
