BJD Seeks Transparency in Odisha Voter Roll Revision

Bhubaneswar: Senior BJD leader Sasmit Patra has urged the Chief Election Commissioner to ensure transparency in Odisha’s upcoming Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls.

His letter highlights irregularities in preliminary verification, where nearly 9.8 lakh voters were flagged for deletion.

Patra stressed that such large-scale deletions risk disenfranchising genuine voters if not backed by documented field verification and advance notice.

He called for stronger monitoring in high-deletion areas, citizen-friendly grievance redressal mechanisms, and public disclosure of correction data.

The Election Commission has already directed re-verification and corrective review before SIR Phase‑III begins on May 30, 2026.

The exercise will involve 38,123 Booth Level Officers conducting door-to-door verification, assisted by 27,723 Booth Level Agents from political parties.

Patra also emphasized outreach for vulnerable communities and coordination with political parties to safeguard voter rights.

He urged deployment of observer teams during critical stages to maintain public confidence in the electoral process.
