Angul: Wild Elephant Attack Claims One Life, Injures Another
Angul district witnessed another tragic incident of human–elephant conflict late Wednesday night.
A wild elephant entered Gadatulamul village under Bantala range, collapsing a wall and fatally injuring 45‑year‑old Arta Bhoi while he was asleep inside his house.
Despite being rushed to Angul District Headquarters Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries on the way.
In a separate incident at Tumuni village, 60‑year‑old Bandhu Behera was attacked by an elephant while working in a mango orchard.
He sustained serious injuries and was rescued by locals before being admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital.
The twin incidents have sparked fear and anger among villagers, who allege repeated elephant incursions have destroyed homes and crops.
They demanded immediate compensation for Bhoi’s family and stronger action from the Forest Department to prevent further tragedies.
These attacks highlight the growing human–elephant conflict in Angul’s Bantala range, underscoring the urgent need for effective mitigation measures.
