Bhitarkanika National Park Closed for Crocodile Breeding Season from May 1
Bhubaneswar, April 16: The Rajnagar Forest Division has announced that Bhitarkanika National Park will remain closed to tourists from May 1 to July 31, 2026 to facilitate the annual crocodile breeding and nesting season.
Authorities stated that female crocodiles become highly aggressive after laying eggs and guard their nests fiercely, making human presence unsafe during this period.
The closure aims to ensure a disturbance-free environment for breeding and to protect the fragile ecosystem of the mangrove-rich park.
Bhitarkanika, known for its saltwater crocodiles, mangrove forests, and migratory birds, attracts thousands of visitors annually, especially in winter.
The seasonal restriction is a vital conservation measure to safeguard wildlife and maintain ecological balance.
