Wild Boar Attack in Nuapada: Two Women Injured, Villagers Demand Action

Nuapada (Odisha), April 5: Two young women were seriously injured after a wild boar attacked them while they were collecting mahua flowers in Sirigidi village of Nuapada district.

The victims, identified as Purnima Majhi (25) and Samaleshwari Rout (22), sustained deep injuries to their right legs.

Local villagers rushed to their aid, driving the animal back into the forest and immediately shifting the injured women to Nuapada District Headquarters Hospital.

Doctors confirmed that both victims require leg surgery, and treatment is currently underway.

The incident has sparked concern among forest‑dependent communities, who frequently face threats from wild animals during the mahua collection season.

Villagers have urged the government to provide compensation, advanced medical care, and safety measures to protect livelihoods.

Forest officials from Khariar Road Range have initiated an investigation into the attack.

The case underscores the growing human‑wildlife conflict in Odisha’s forested regions and the urgent need for preventive strategies.
