Thunderstorms & Gusty Winds: IMD Warns Odisha Districts of Severe Weather

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange and yellow warnings across several districts of Odisha as heavy rainfall is expected to continue until August 2.

A deep depression over the northwest Bay of Bengal is driving widespread precipitation, prompting authorities to remain on high alert.

  • Orange Warning (Heavy to Very Heavy Rain): In effect till July 29 morning for Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, and Sambalpur.
  • Yellow Warning (Thunderstorms & Gusty Winds): Valid for July 29–31 across districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, and Nayagarh.
  • August 2 Forecast: Heavy rainfall is likely in Sundargarh, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj.

Advisory: Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel, stay indoors during intense rainfall, and take precautions against lightning and strong winds. Local authorities are monitoring flood‑prone areas for waterlogging.
