Odisha Flood Situation Shows Gradual Improvement as Rivers Recede

Bhubaneswar, Sept 3: Flood conditions across Odisha are easing as major rivers continue to recede and rainfall intensity declines.

The State Emergency Operation Centre reported that relief and restoration efforts are underway in the worst‑hit districts.

In Jajpur, Dasarathpur block remains affected, with 19 gram panchayats and 62 villages inundated. Over 7,700 people are sheltered in 22 relief camps.

Mayurbhanj has seen flooding in 21 blocks, affecting 97 villages and two wards of Baripada town. More than 10,500 people are in 29 camps, with 104 houses damaged.

In Baleshwar, five blocks, including Bhogarai and Baliapal, are impacted, with 72 camps housing nearly 35,740 people.

Authorities have deployed 47 teams, including ODRAF, NDRF, and Fire Services, to support rescue and relief operations.

Cattle feed supply and infrastructure restoration are ongoing.

The Subarnarekha River at Rajghat remains above the danger level at 10.84 metres but is falling.

Other rivers including the Mahanadi, Brahmani, Baitarani, Burhabalanga, Vansadhara, and Jalaka are receding.

Hirakud reservoir stands at 627.29 feet, with inflows of 1.41 lakh cusecs and outflows of 78,429 cusecs.

The IMD has issued a Yellow Warning for thunderstorms with gusty winds in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Cuttack, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj.

Authorities caution against localised flooding, waterlogging, and damage to roads, crops, and structures.

The State Emergency Operation Centre continues 24/7 monitoring and coordination with district centres to ensure timely response.
