Rama Chandra Kadam Urges CM to Restore Gopabandhu Sambadika Swasthya Bima Yojana

Bhubaneswar: Congress Legislature Party Leader and Potangi MLA Rama Chandra Kadam has urged Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi to restore the Gopabandhu Sambadika Swasthya Bima Yojana (GSBY) as an independent health insurance scheme for journalists.

In his letter to the Chief Minister, Kadam highlighted that the merger of GSBY with Ayushman Bharat has created procedural delays and inconveniences for media professionals seeking medical benefits.

He stressed that the original GSBY provided timely healthcare access and financial protection during emergencies, which is now compromised.

Kadam emphasised the crucial role of journalists in strengthening democracy, acting as a bridge between the government and the people.

He requested either the revival of GSBY as a standalone scheme or the introduction of a simplified mechanism within the current framework to ensure hassle‑free medical treatment for accredited journalists.

Expressing confidence in the Chief Minister’s intervention, Kadam said such a move would reaffirm the state’s commitment to the welfare of media personnel.
