Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday released the 24th instalment of the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, transferring ₹18,690 crore directly to more than 9.34 crore farmers across the country during a national event held in Banaskantha, Gujarat.

Under the latest instalment, Odisha received ₹707.60 crore, with financial assistance of ₹2,000 each credited through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to over 35.38 lakh eligible farmers in the state.

The disbursement programme was implemented across districts, blocks, panchayats, Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS), and mandi levels.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Deputy Chief Minister and Agriculture Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, along with ministers and legislators, attended a state-level programme at Krushi Shikshan Sadan of OUAT in Bhubaneswar, where they watched the Prime Minister’s address live.

Interacting with farmers during the event, Chief Minister Majhi described farmers as the backbone of the state’s economy and praised the Union Government’s efforts to strengthen agricultural welfare through initiatives such as PM-Kisan.

He emphasised that the state government is ensuring that no eligible farmer is left out of the scheme and urged beneficiaries to register on the Agristack portal through their nearest agriculture or revenue office.

The Chief Minister also highlighted Odisha’s own farmer welfare initiatives, including the CM Kisan Yojana, which provides ₹4,000 annually to small and marginal farmers and ₹12,500 in livelihood assistance to landless farming families, including urban farmers and Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs).

He further noted that under the Krushi Vidyanidhi Yojana, scholarships are being provided to children of CM Kisan beneficiaries pursuing higher education in medical, engineering, agriculture and allied technical courses.

According to the Chief Minister, financial assistance increased from ₹53.69 crore for 13,923 students in 2024-25 to ₹291.60 crore for 68,910 students in 2025-26.

Majhi also highlighted the Samrudha Krushak Yojana, under which farmers are being provided ₹3,100 per quintal of paddy.

Addressing concerns arising from recent heavy rains, floods and post-Cyclone Arnab conditions in several districts, the Chief Minister assured farmers that crop damage assessments are underway and eligible compensation will be provided promptly.

Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo reiterated the state government’s commitment to extending assistance to affected farmers after completion of damage assessments.
