Odisha Vigilance Seizes ₹5 Lakh Cash from Raurkela Excise Superintendent
Vigilance officials intercepted a vehicle in Raurkela and recovered ₹5 lakh in cash allegedly linked to Dhaneswar Barad, Superintendent of Excise.
The money was being carried by a wine shop salesman, who admitted it was handed over by Barad for delivery to his residence.
Barad himself acknowledged ownership of the cash but failed to provide a satisfactory explanation.
Consequently, a corruption case (Raurkela Vigilance PS Case No. 12 dated 11.09.2026) was registered under Section 13(2) read with Section 13(1)(b) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2018.
Officials have seized the cash and initiated searches at Barad’s office and residence to investigate disproportionate assets. The probe is ongoing, with further details awaited.
