Odisha Triumphs in Girls’ U-17 Rugby, Bihar Clinches Boys’ Title at SGFI Championship

Bhubaneswar witnessed thrilling rugby action as the SGFI National Rugby Championship concluded its U-17 category matches at Kalinga Stadium.

Odisha’s girls’ team emerged victorious, defeating Bihar in a gripping final, while Maharashtra and Delhi secured third and fourth positions, respectively.

In the boys’ U-17 category, Bihar claimed the championship crown, overcoming Odisha in a competitive final. Maharashtra and Rajasthan finished third and fourth.

The closing ceremony was graced by Dr Yeddula Vijay, Director of Sports and Youth Services, who praised the athletes for their discipline and sportsmanship.

Birendra Korkora, Director of Secondary Education, highlighted the importance of school sports in holistic development, while Tournament Observer Arvind Yadav commended Odisha’s hosting and emphasised grassroots rugby growth.

The championship continues with U-14 boys’ and girls’ matches scheduled for April 9–10, 2026, promising more excitement for young rugby enthusiasts.
