Odisha to Add 190 EV Charging Stations Under PM E‑DRIVE
Bhubaneswar, April 30: The Odisha government has announced a major push for electric vehicle (EV) adoption, unveiling plans to install 190 new public charging stations under the PM E‑DRIVE scheme.
This expansion will nearly triple the state’s current network of around 100 stations, significantly boosting green mobility.
The rollout will prioritise six key hubs — Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Puri, Angul, Kalinganagar, and Balasore — creating a “charging spine” to support both intra‑city and inter‑city travel.
Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has been appointed as the implementing agency, with site surveys and feasibility studies already underway.
The initiative forms part of the Rs 10,900 crore PM E-DRIVE scheme, which earmarks Rs 2,000 crore for charging infrastructure nationwide.
Officials say the project will help reduce range anxiety among EV users and position Odisha as a key player in India’s zero‑emission mobility transition.
