Odisha Police Crack ₹5.14 Crore Fake Trading Scam, Arrest Darjeeling Duo
Bhubaneswar, April 28: The Odisha Crime Branch Cyber Police has busted a major online investment fraud, arresting two men from Darjeeling in connection with a Rs 5.14 crore fake trading scam.
The victim was lured through social media into transferring money across multiple accounts over 20 days, beginning March 17, 2025. Fraudsters showed fake profit screenshots before blocking withdrawals and demanding extra fees.
Following a complaint filed on April 9, 2025, a team led by Inspector Rajakishore Behera traced the money trail to Darjeeling.
On April 28, 2026, raids led to the arrest of Kiran Gurung (55) and Randheer Kumar Ray (46). Investigators found Rs 49.1 lakh deposited in a joint account linked to the accused, along with seized mobile phones, SIM cards, Aadhaar, and PAN cards.
Both accused were produced before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate in Siliguri, granted transit remand, and are being brought to Odisha for interrogation.
Police suspect the duo are part of a larger interstate gang running fake investment schemes.
Authorities have urged citizens to avoid unsolicited investment offers promising guaranteed high returns and to report cyber fraud immediately via the National Cyber Crime Helpline 1930 or www.cybercrime.gov.in.
