Odisha Police and NLUO Launch Child Protection Training in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar, May 18: Odisha Police’s Crimes Against Women & Children Wing (CAW & CW), in collaboration with the Centre for Child Rights (CCR) at National Law University Odisha (NLUO), inaugurated a two‑day training programme on child protection.

The initiative, held on May 18–19, aims to strengthen child‑friendly policing and deepen officers’ understanding of child rights, legal frameworks, and trauma‑informed approaches.

On the first day, 131 officers—including Additional SPs, DSPs, Inspectors, and Sub‑Inspectors—participated in sessions covering the Juvenile Justice Act, POCSO Act, Child Marriage Act, and Child Labour laws.

Senior officials emphasised sensitivity in handling missing child cases and stressed Odisha’s achievement of 100% disposal of cases involving children in conflict with the law.

Academic experts highlighted mental health interventions, adverse childhood experiences, and the importance of protecting children’s identities in media reporting.

Day Two will focus on supervisory cadres at CAW & CW headquarters, reinforcing Odisha Police’s commitment to child‑sensitive law enforcement.
