Odisha Minister’s Nephew Held in Student Suicide Probe

Ganjam police have arrested Biswajit Jena, nephew of Odisha Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena, in connection with the alleged abetment of a student’s suicide.

The victim, a 20‑year‑old engineering student pursuing a BCA course, was found hanging in her hostel room on Saturday.

According to reports, she had been in a relationship with the accused, who studied at the same private college.

Following a complaint lodged by the student’s maternal uncle, police registered a case under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (abetment of suicide).

Berhampur SP Saravana Vivek M confirmed that a probe was underway.

Senior officers, a scientific team, and an executive magistrate inspected the hostel premises.

Electronic devices belonging to both the accused and the deceased were seized for forensic examination.

Authorities are analysing digital evidence, witness statements, and the post‑mortem report to determine the exact cause of death.

The complaint alleges that Biswajit Jena’s actions contributed to the student’s death.

Police stated that further action will depend on the outcome of the investigation.
