Odisha Installs 1.45 Lakh Smart Prepaid Meters, Complaints Resolved: Energy Minister

Odisha has made significant progress in modernising its power distribution system with the installation of 1,45,141 smart prepaid meters across all 30 districts.

According to Energy Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, Khurda leads the rollout with 36,744 meters, followed by Ganjam (16,304) and Cuttack (13,964).

In the past two years, distribution companies received 1,499 complaints related to erroneous billing from these meters.

The Minister assured the Assembly that all complaints have been resolved.

Meanwhile, in Balangir district, the average daytime supply to agricultural feeders during the last irrigation season was 23 hours and 25 minutes.

However, 5,419 agricultural pump-set connections remain pending—5,310 at the consumer end and 109 at the TPWODL end.

The figures highlight Odisha’s push toward smarter energy management while addressing challenges in agricultural power supply.
