Odisha Health Minister Proposes AIIMS Collaboration for Emergency Care

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Health Minister Dr Mukesh Mahaling has urged AIIMS New Delhi and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) to collaborate on strengthening integrated emergency and trauma care under the National Health Priority Project (NHRP).

During his visit to AIIMS Delhi’s J.P.N. Apex Trauma Centre, Dr Mahaling reviewed advanced treatment protocols and trauma systems.

He proposed adopting one district in Odisha as a pilot project, with the aim of replicating successful models across the state.

Highlighting the urgency, he cited the India State-Level Disease Burden Initiative (2019), which ranked Odisha 8th in mortality rate and 3rd in Disability-Adjusted Life Years (DALYs).

Road traffic accidents, cardiac arrests, strokes, and snakebites remain major contributors to preventable deaths.

The minister expressed interest in signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with AIIMS to establish world-class emergency care systems in Odisha.

Experts believe this collaboration could be a game-changer, improving pre-hospital care, reducing response times, and enhancing trauma management statewide.
