Odisha Govt Fixes English Spellings of Districts, Blocks & ULBs
Bhubaneswar, June 22: The Odisha Government has issued a notification standardising the English spellings of districts, sub-divisions, tahasils, blocks, and urban local bodies across the state.
The directive, released under Notification No. RDM-DRC-POLICY-0003-2025/26277, aims to preserve Odisha’s linguistic and cultural identity by aligning English spellings with Odia phonetics.
Officials clarified that the changes apply only to English spellings, while the original Odia names remain unchanged.
The corrected spellings will be incorporated into official schedules and records following publication in the Odisha Gazette.
This move is expected to ensure uniformity across government documents, maps, and communication channels, while maintaining the phonetic integrity of Odia names.
The initiative reflects the state’s commitment to cultural preservation and administrative clarity.
