Odisha Govt Clarifies: No Ban on 5kg LPG Cylinders for Migrants & Students
The Odisha government has clarified that migrant workers and students can continue to purchase 5kg Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinders from Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) without any restrictions.
Officials emphasised that only a valid identity card is required, and no permanent address proof is necessary.
For domestic consumers, the cylinders remain available but require e‑KYC verification to prevent duplicate connections.
Authorities stressed that enforcement actions are targeted solely at unauthorised roadside vendors, illegal refilling shops, and traders inflating prices.
Recent raids across districts, including Cuttack, Jajpur, Angul, and Gajapati, have led to the seizure of hundreds of illegally sold cylinders.
The government reiterated that genuine consumers will not face difficulties, and the crackdown is meant to eliminate the black market and artificial scarcity.
Consumers are advised to complete e‑KYC at authorised agencies, avoid purchasing from unauthorised sellers, and report overcharging or hoarding to local supply offices.
The government’s goal is to ensure uninterrupted access to fuel for vulnerable groups while maintaining a transparent distribution chain.
