Odisha Forms Committee, Deports 49 Illegal Bangladeshi Nationals | CM Majhi
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced in the Assembly that the state has constituted a dedicated committee to identify, detain, and deport Bangladeshi nationals residing illegally.
Majhi confirmed that strict instructions have been issued to all district Superintendents of Police to intensify identification drives.
To support this, 18 district-level detention centres and two state-level facilities are now operational.
Authorities have already verified the documents of 1,768 suspects, declaring 51 individuals as illegal residents. Verification of identity papers for another 50 suspects is ongoing.
A specialised mobile application is being used to assist officials in identifying infiltrators, while senior intelligence officers are visiting districts considered vulnerable to cross-border infiltration.
Since the new government took office, 51 Bangladeshi nationals have been identified, of which 49 have already been deported.
The deported individuals included 24 from Khordha, 15 from Cuttack, six from Ganjam, three from Kandhamal, and one from Koraput.
Additionally, two individuals were caught using forged passports, with police registering cases and investigations underway.
The Chief Minister emphasised that Odisha remains committed to safeguarding its borders and ensuring that illegal residents are identified and deported promptly.
