Odisha Crime Branch Nabs Ex‑Malkhana Clerk in High Court Forgery Case
Cuttack, April 23: The CID Crime Branch of Odisha Police has arrested Prasanna Kumar Patro, a former Malkhana Clerk, in connection with a forgery case involving the High Court and various bank fraud conspiracies.
Patro, born on April 11, 1960, is the son of the late Chaitanya Patro from Jeypore, Koraput. He was apprehended at his rented residence in Trisulia, under the Baranga Police Station in Cuttack. He faces charges under Sections 465, 467, and 471 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in CID Crime Branch case number 06, registered on March 22, 2018.
Investigators allege that Patro conspired with his daughter, Amrita Priyadarsini Patro, to forge an order from the Orissa High Court in W.P.(C) No. 9853/2017 in order to gain wrongful advantage and protect her from a bank fraud case. Additionally, he is implicated in Economic Offences Wing (EOW) case number 16, registered on June 25, 2018, which involves charges of criminal breach of trust, cheating, forgery, and conspiracy.
Patro is considered a habitual offender with a history of forgery and misappropriation of government funds. He was previously convicted in Jeypore Town case number 32/1993 under Section 409 of the IPC and sentenced to three years in prison.
The Crime Branch has noted that Patro has a pattern of forging court orders in past cases to evade legal consequences. Further investigation into his involvement in multiple fraud conspiracies is ongoing.
